- TARANTO
An important national archaeological museum, that houses finds from all over Puglia, is in Taranto. The town is situated on the isthmus that divides the two inlets of Mar Piccolo (Little Sea) and Mar Grande (Big Sea).
As far as the ancient Greek colony is concerned, whose presence has greatly influenced the history of Southern Puglia in the Classical period, the only visible remains consist of two surviving columns belonging to the Archaic Doric temple.
The visit continues in the historic centre of the town in which the Medieval urban structure and the Romanesque Cathedral survive. It is also possible to admire the well-known Aragonese Castle, but only from the outside, since it is army property.

- CRISPIANO, L'AMASTUOLA
Few kilometres away from Taranto, to the north, it is possible to make a tour through the chora, that is the territory that has been under the direct influence of the Greek colony. In particular, the settlement of L'Amastuola, sited on a hill in the Murgia facing the Gulf of Taranto, is characterized by the presence of a Greek settlement overlying the Iapigian one, which has been completely destroyed and replaced by the colonial settlement.
